Driving from point A to point B is mundane, boring, and only rarely do we store in memory what was seen on the way. The only imagery I really notice are sunrises, sunsets, special cars--antique, uniquely decorated, etc--and unfortunately, accidents.
While driving, rear view mirrors are used for practical and cautionary reasoning.
Is it safe to pass the vehicle in front?
Does the vehicle behind you realize you're stopping for the yellow light (or) realize you're slowing down because of traffic congestion? (Can I get a for that!)
Then there's being locked in a long, long, longlonglonglong line for several cycles at a red light. So, from boredom and to avoid frustration, I look around and in rear view to see other people. One instance I was singing (badly) along with a song playing on the radio and happened to look in the mirror. I could tell by the lip movements of the young lady in the car behind me that she was singing the same song! I guess that isn't really unusual as it's a popular radio station but it helped bring home the realization we're not that alone.
Anyway, how many times have we looked in the rear view mirror and wished we could still that moment forever? What feels like centuries ago, I lived in Colorado Springs, CO. One day, I was out getting groceries and other miscellaneous items needed at home. While stuck at a red light, there was the typical scene: traffic and street lights, concrete sidewalks, store windows reflecting the street, dirty snow, and pedestrians wrapped in winter garb each on their own frantic mission. Resigning myself to the long wait I happened to look in the rear view mirror. There was the majestic rise of Pikes Peak rising up above and beyond all the moronic hustle and bustle mankind puts itself through. Calm and serene Pikes Peak and Cheyenne mountain stood: arrogant, indifferent, and beautiful.
It just kinda...I don't know...help me put my problems into a different perspective?
I treasure that memory and pull it out of my memory files every now 'n then to remind myself that the world really does not revolve around me and what I think are insurmountable problems.
Point of all this rambling is I recently submitted "Rear View" and then thought it would be interesting to see other DA artists' works, too, following rear view scenery idea.
Thank you for taking the time to read and enjoy DA members' art.

Stock images
Please do not copy a stock images, treat with filters, bright & contrast, color treated, etc. and then claim as your own. That is so not cool.
You are welcome to use to create art--of any medium except for a dabble in photo software as mentioned--and I would appreciate (am not demanding) a link so I can see it too.
I ask that the stock images not be used to express STRONG political views (satire is welcomed), any religious fanaticism, gore, and debasement of any individual because of gender, religion, and sexual preference.
That's pretty much it!
Thanks for taking time to read this!

Good grief. What the hell was I thinking. For the artists who do this with more speed and skill... I salute thee!

No way in hell am I going to draw every notebook. The photo I can keep as a remembrance of this stash (before selling most on e-bay, dirt-cheap by the way). As a drawing, though, it's going to look a little stale.
This needs to be more than a story of a woman (moi) who goes loopy at "Back to School" sales...so it needs a little flavah.

My daughter is very cooperative as my hand model, which I appreciate.
So. I took several photos of her hand at different angles and chose this one to attempt to draw.
(Anyone is welcome to use the hand pic; just send me a link cuz I wanna see your work!)
Two bold Bic cristal ballpoint pens (1.6mm), black and red, were used on Pacon standard weight paper.
After deciding the composition, I sketched (erased, sketched, erased, sketched, erasedsketchederased...you get the idea...very frustrating! :shakefist:) in pencil, before being satisfied enough to outline with the black pen.
Oh, the red doesn't signify blood, pain, or anything dark. It's
Lack of inspiration
So going to local library, and checking out Ancient Egypt by Philippe Legendre, http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/5198WPCJNRL._AA160_.jpg, from Kids Can Draw series and using the book as reference, I got some good practice in drawing simple (and quite fun) pictures. Grown-ups are entitled! :D
Although the original pictures are in color, I used a Bic Cristal Bold black ballpoint pen. I wanted to practice and learn using different techniques in shading and shadows. (The paper is Pacon manila standard weight, and is not meant for professional art work. Quite rough and is basically meant only for rough sketches and such. Which is cool. I lik

Nice journal SonyaSpiral. Here is a good reminder that mirrors aren't only to be used in the morning while shaving! Thanks for including my photo and credits.
