A diary, in general, is used for writing about each day's events in chronological order. What a great tool to use in writing memoirs or in generating ideas for fiction.
Journals are defined as being used to write feelings and thoughts about events, changes in circumstances, and working through what life has dealt. (Also great for putting together memoirs and fiction!)
The physical feel, weight and even the smell of the book can take us back to the day it was written. Combine that with the stains of food, maybe even crumbs stuck to the pages and the gloppy ink from the pens. While reading a decades-old diary filled with childhood entries, I remember gripping the pencil tightly--the eraser worn down to nothing--griping about my brothers who were getting on my last nerve or how I was grounded and life, at that point and time, was...unfair!
Now, as an adult, my books are both diary and journal (and address book, book list, grocery list, etc). When I have no profound thoughts writin' events of the day is enough. Other times I get on a real spiel and use up several pages doing the thing.
One glorious aspect of journaling is that there is no set rule in how these are to be written. YOUR journal--YOUR rules.
However, first step is finding (or making) the right journal to suit individual needs.

Stock images
Please do not copy a stock images, treat with filters, bright & contrast, color treated, etc. and then claim as your own. That is so not cool.
You are welcome to use to create art--of any medium except for a dabble in photo software as mentioned--and I would appreciate (am not demanding) a link so I can see it too.
I ask that the stock images not be used to express STRONG political views (satire is welcomed), any religious fanaticism, gore, and debasement of any individual because of gender, religion, and sexual preference.
That's pretty much it!
Thanks for taking time to read this!

Okay this is going to be a challenge. Hopefully I'll compose sumthin' that resembles this.

Good grief. What the hell was I thinking. For the artists who do this with more speed and skill... I salute thee!

No way in hell am I going to draw every notebook. The photo I can keep as a remembrance of this stash (before selling most on e-bay, dirt-cheap by the way). As a drawing, though, it's going to look a little stale.
This needs to be more than a story of a woman (moi) who goes loopy at "Back to School" sales...so it needs a little flavah.

My daughter is very cooperative as my hand model, which I appreciate.
So. I took several photos of her hand at different angles and chose this one to attempt to draw.
(Anyone is welcome to use the hand pic; just send me a link cuz I wanna see your work!)
Two bold Bic cristal ballpoint pens (1.6mm), black and red, were used on Pacon standard weight paper.
After deciding the composition, I sketched (erased, sketched, erased, sketched, erasedsketchederased...you get the idea...very frustrating! :shakefist:) in pencil, before being satisfied enough to outline with the black pen.
Oh, the red doesn't signify blood, pain, or anything dark. It's
Lack of inspiration
So going to local library, and checking out Ancient Egypt by Philippe Legendre, http://ecx.images-amazon.com/images/I/5198WPCJNRL._AA160_.jpg, from Kids Can Draw series and using the book as reference, I got some good practice in drawing simple (and quite fun) pictures. Grown-ups are entitled! :D
Although the original pictures are in color, I used a Bic Cristal Bold black ballpoint pen. I wanted to practice and learn using different techniques in shading and shadows. (The paper is Pacon manila standard weight, and is not meant for professional art work. Quite rough and is basically meant only for rough sketches and such. Which is cool. I lik
